Anthropology - Refugees - Public Imaginary

Anthropology - Refugees - Public Imaginary

Date:12 December 2015
Conference venue: Department of Sociology, Andragogy and Cultural Anthropology Faculty of Arts UP, Olomouc, Czech Republic

We believe that anthropology does not have turn its back to the so called “refugee crisis”. Research may be focused on the origins of the crisis or may also describe the different agents involved as well as their roles and strategies in the contemporary migration arena. Questions of power, images created by media and the construction of new global imaginaries may be also addressed. Therefore, current anthropology is challenged to answer questions such as:
How to conduct research in a process where conditions are extremely dynamic and they are characterized by continuous change?
What communication strategy will be needed in order to present our findings in public?
What is our role as scientists in public engagement? What position should anthropologists take in such a field, should they get involved or only observe the situation as an outsider?
The Cultural anthropology team from Palacký University Olomouc has the pleasure to invite you to participate in an academic encounter / conference. Our aim is to create a network of people interested in discussing current challenges for anthropology in our region.
